SHAZAM!
This will be the first of my SHAZAM! Monster Society of Evil production journals.
Slipped into New York last week to meet with DC Editor Mike Carlin about the 4 issue mini-series I’m working on, SHAZAM! Monster Society of Evil. This is me & Mike, with The Big Cheese himself, in front of a mural at the DC offices. Meanwhile, I needed to do some location scouting. The climatic battle in MSOE takes place in Central Park, so I spent Friday wandering around taking reference photos. Here are a few…

The photo directly above will be used for the location called Sivana’s Rock, and the next photo will be used for Talky & Billy’s Rendezvous Point.

No trip to Central Park is complete without a visit to Strawberry Fields. Amen.

NICE! Can’t wait to see it Jeff!

I’ve been to NYC plenty! I live right in New Jersey though, so it’s not much of a trip.

I’m another who’s been excited about this project since it was first announced, and the Central Park backdrop looks great. I look forward to the release of “Monster Society” and know that this beloved character is in good hands with you. Please keep updating us on the book, and your future work.

Jeff,
Likely you don’t know my name, but I write articles about Capt. Marvel for ALTER-EGO. I’ve been eagerly awaiting your Monster Society series since I first heard about it.
Ironically, you and I live not far apart (I’m in Galloway, just southwest of Columbus), but we’ve never met!

I can’t wait to see SHAZAM!! I usually don’t like superhero comics but this onje look really cool. Especially since you’re writing and drawing it! I’ll be sure to pick this up and I hope it’s coming out by next year. Good Luck with the work Jeff!

[...] After a little white paint to cover the smears, I finish the figures and start on the background. In this scene, Billy and Talky have rendezvoused in Central Park. I visited the park in June to see what kind of rocks and brush were there. Using my reference photos, I draw leaves and vines around their feet.
