Dragonslayer ships today!

Filed under: Bone, News — Jeff @ 12:55 pm

Bone 4: The Dragonslayer, the new color BONE book ships to most bookstores today.  Steve Hamaker stopped by the Barnes & Noble on the way to work and saw they had 15 copies! Graphix (the graphic novel imprint of Scholastic) is releasing two newly colored BONE books a year until they complete all nine volumes. I'm checking with Scholastic to see if copies will be available for San Diego Comic-Con, where I plan to sign books at the FLIGHT booth (more on San Diego tomorrow).

The Dragonslayer is my favorite Bone story and this is by far the best coloring job Steve has done (and that's saying something)!  If you want to see more color images from the new book, scroll down to the June 12 blog entry…

  2. It is released NOW! Check the bookstore in your area. Some stores may take a few days to put it out on the shelves, but the books are out.

  5. I can’t wait to get my copy, indeed.

Is this the first color release for this year? Or is there one more coming?

Also, Scholastic, why do you make us wait? Release four in a year, at least!

  6. Matt, Eyes of the storm came out this year, so this is the final one for the year, also, it takes along time to colour them, then they have to edit, make a cover, publish, alot of things! Don’t expect so much!

  7. I grabbed my copy today, and man, does it look fantastic! ‘Dragonslayer’ has always been my favorite tale as well, a tremendous turning point in the Bone epic. I bought a few copies of the One Volume edition to pass onto my “super hero-exclusive pals” last year and they were hooked. It’s funny that two of them called me today all giddy-like to tell me that “The Dragonslayer in color is out!” Uber job, folks, and I wish much continued success…

  8. Hey, these comments are great! Especially about the superhero friends. And Tanner is correct about the time it takes to make one of these books. Even though the comics are finished, Steve and I are being very careful to color them in such a way that they look as if they were always in color, if you catch my meaning. Steve has a team of two guys who prep every page, and he is working full time, but it still takes close to six months per volume. And your patience will be rewarded – - as you can see with Dragonslayer, he is doing it right!

  9. Yep, picked up my copy yesterday! It looks marvelous! As you said Jeff, it was the best one yet. And it does look as though it was always in colour, and now I’m thinking how I read these in black and white. I guess it’s just such a great story that I didn’t care about the colour. Great Job guys! The colour is fantastic and makes the story more fun. I can’t wait for books 5-9 to be released! Also, Jeff, have you thought about the amount of blood in the last few volumes? Is that going to be coloured or did Scholastic say you had to take it out? I hope not, it helps make the story more realistic, and helps you understand that these characters are in immense pain. Thanks Jeff!

  13. I apologize if I looked overly impatient.

I simply really love the scope and imagination that is bursting from this series. It makes me feel like a kid again while also delivering a sense of brilliant, EPIC story-telling.

Which, of course, leaves me dying for more…

  14. My local Chapters in Canada doesn’t seem to be carrying this.

It seems to be listed on Amazon but it doesn’t specify if it’s the colour edition or not.

At any rate, not even Scholastic’s site has an option for online orderng.

    Can anyone help me out?

  15. Matt, the official release date is Aug. 1. At the very least, Amazon will sell it starting that day. You can recognize it by the cover (shown on the blog page) I’m still learning the ways of mainstream book publishing. Some stores put the books out early, but all of them put them out by the release date – - if they ordered any to begin with! And I still haven’t figured out when exactly comic book stores get them! Any comic shop owners out there with insight?
