Last Days of Summer
This is my favorite time of year. The cicadas are making their last loud bursts of music, the weather is cooling down, the big summer comic conventions are over, the sweet corn is perfect and the tomatoes will be ripe by 3 o’clock tomorrow. The seasons are changing – - these weeks, right through Halloween, have always seemed like days of possibility and hope. And after watching the news for the last couple of weeks, I could use a little of that.
One place to taste the Summer's harvest is The Ohio State Fair. Corn on the cob, roasted over a fire pit and dipped in melted butter. My fingers are burning while I'm trying to take this picture.
My neighbor Patricia Bates’ Blue-Ribbon cheesecake, covered with berries. Go, Pat!
The Columbus Skyline made out of Legos.
And outside the Lego building – - This one’s for you, Curtis.
Elvis!
And yes, I have been working, too! I inked 10 pages of Dr. Sivana menacing Billy Batson and Mary. COMING SOON: Steve and I are putting together some SHAZAM production journals that include pencils, script pages, and Quicktime videos of Alligator People being inked (DC is discussing a release date for SHAZAM! Monster Society of Evil sometime early next Spring. Don't listen to rumors, even from me, the real annoucement is coming). Cartoon Books is preparing for the Fall and Spring: Vijaya will make an announcement soon about the Bone European Book Tour (we’re going to try something I don’t think any indie publisher has tried before…). I’ve also been busy working on something akin to a Director’s Cut for the Telltale BONE games, (which I am very excited about. I hope to tell you about that soon), I’ve started a new 2 page comic for FLIGHT 4 called “OKAY!!!”, and work continues on the return of the BONE: One Volume Edition next month. Steve is coloring SHAZAM 2 and BONE 6, Kathleen is preparing press kits and coordinating flights & schedules, and Vijaya and I are working on some fun new areas for us to go into for 2007 – - and most importantly – - Vijaya just cooked up some corn on the cob, which I will now go and sample…

Wow Jeff, you sound busy, Halloween…. hmmmm…. well anyway, sounds like you’re having fun, that Bne director’s cut game sounds cool, we need some more Bone merchandise! And a Bone shop like the old one (for all the newer Bone fans, you could buy things from the shop) maybe you can put up some exclusive artwork! Or first drafts? Well, can’t wait to see Shazam! and now I can’t wait to see Flight 4! Can you give us any hint on what the story is? Is it Bone related? I guess not…. So, any news on the Art of Bone book? Ok! See ya!

Bone European Book Tour! At last
It’s hard enough to find/buy comics here in the UK let alone the chance to go to any events.

When will I get to see Bone sculpted in butter? When I ask? I’m addicted to fair fudge.

I’m very excited about the EU Book tour. While I was working on Bone it seemed like I was in Europe at least twice a year. It has been a while since I visited. Details are coming, Vijaya is still tying up loose ends.

TOO FUNNY! How great is that? OK, seeing my character immortalised in lego is just a bit of a kick as it was the toy of choice for me as a kid growing up in the Seventies. Nice one squire!
