BONE: OVE Ships; Goes Back to Press

The BONE: One Volume Edition is here! It shipped last week to comic shops, and is now on its way to mainstream bookstores everywhere. Malloy, our printer in Michigan, did a wonderful job as usual. The inks are black and the new cover looks great. Then yesterday, we were surprised to get a call from Jim Kuhoric of Diamond Comic Distributors telling us that they shipped the rest of the entire print run of 20,000 copies out to stores this week. And they want more! The Diamond warehouse is empty! There should be plenty of books around for the time being, but we plan to go back to press immediately.

This current printing of the BONE: One Volume Edition is published by Cartoon Books, has a new cover and is technically the seventh printing. It's a 1300 page graphic novel that contains the complete Bone story in the original black & white.
As always, if you want to find the comic book store closest to you, call the Comic Shop Locator Serviced at 1-888-COMIC-BOOK or go to their webpage.

Great news, Jeff!

The new volume looks great!
Didn’t you release the cover to the OVE as a print? Is there any way to order that? If so, from who?
Thanks!
Comment by Chris Neeson — August 30, 2006 @ 7:40 pm
Ordered! Can’t wait to receive it!

Glad to hear it! We used the cover for a promotional poster that went to retailers in their order packs (or is going to be–I’ll check on that with Kathleen), and was also given away at the Flight and CBLDF booths in San Diego. I don’t think there are any left over, but we may still make a real print out of it!

Glad to see the Black and White edition getting published again. As great as the color books look, I just think that Bone was a masterwork of light and dark balance.
I heard a couple years ago about you working on a Captain Marvel series for DC. Was that just a wild rumor, or is that happening?

Is there a hardcover version of the new printing of Bone OVE?
Comment by Vaughn Berger — September 1, 2006 @ 4:53 pm
Without a doubt, the best comic reading esperience i’ve ever had. No fluff, no overhyping, just a damn good, entertaining epic. Thanks for keeping it simple and real, Jeff.
I’m looking forward to the Capt. Marvel book. It’s not just anyone who can get me to step back in to the land of spandex.

Jeff, it looks great. Shall be speaking with Forbidden Planet in the UK about getting me a copy. Hope it’ll be winging it’s way over here.
Comment by Curtis Jobling — September 3, 2006 @ 6:10 am
I believe this printing of the OVE is going to shops in the UK, but after that, Harper Collins will be taking over the publishing rights there, and they will be concentrating on the new color Bone books they are releasing next month! Harper may do their own OVE in the future. Meanwhile, the Cartoon Books Bone:OVEs will always be available through mailorder.

The Captain Marvel rumors are true. I agreed to write and draw a 4 part mini-series after I completed BONE. DC announced the project, but did not announce a release date. That decision looked very wise when the Bone comics ran two years longer than I anticipated; but work began on SHAZAM: Monster Society of Evil about a year and a half ago, and will be finished shortly after the New Year.

Please make an affordable hardcover version
Comment by Chris — September 3, 2006 @ 9:50 pm
There are no plans for a new hardcover of the OVE, because as many of you know, we made a special, limited edition hardcover that collectors bought for $150 US. Out of respect for those readers who spent their hard earned cash, and to keep their limited editions special, we are only printing softcovers. I should also point out that Scholastic is not publishing the BONE: One Volume Editions, Cartoon Books is, so we can keep close control over things like this.

I must reiterate Chris Neeson’s question… will the new OVE cover be a print or poster (preferably large poster size, which I believe is 24×34 inches)? It’s completely beautiful and immersive, and I’d love to have it on mt wall…

We are having a meeting next week about licensing and products for the direct market and our web shop site. I will put a high quality print of the OVE cover on the agenda. And thanks for suggesting it!

Great to hear about keeping the OVE hardcover limited. I missed ordering it originally, and still found a reasonably priced one on ebay. Just a fantastic HC to own and cherish.
And glad to hear about the possibility of the new cover being made into a larger sized poster (to go along with the other posters you’ve released in the past). Cool stuff Jeff!

On wikipedia, it mentions that “As of 2004, Cartoon Books’ Steve Hamaker is coloring the entire series for new color editions of the nine trade paperbacks, to be published by the Graphix imprint of Scholastic Press”.
Is this true? If it is, when will it go to stores? Love Bone in black and white, and will love it just as much in technicolour!
Thanks!

Sorry if this is making the comments too much like a forum, but Kenneth, four volumes of the Bone colored editions are on sale already!
You can find hardback or paperback editions at Amazon.com, linked nicely through the Boneville store!

The new OVE looks fantastic! I’m already collecting the Scholastic coloured versions, but I’m planning on buying the OVE for my brother’s christmas gift. It’s just too beautiful to pass up.
