Shazam! The Monster Society of Evil #1 on Sale Now!
Shazam! MSoE #1 went on sale this week. Hope you were able to brave the weather and get a copy.
Here are some SHAZAM! MSoE links on the web:
Wizard Universe has an interview and some full page shots from MSoE #2! Including Mary flying for the first time.
TwoMorrows has a new podcast. Host Christopher Irving interviewed me about MSoE. We talk about Billy’s age & the Trials of Shazam, among other things.
I wanted the inside covers to look a little like those old movie serial posters where the inset images get replaced with each new chapter. And like the original Monster Society comic book serial from the Golden Age, the new chapter titles are written in secret code. You can decode them by going here, to DC Comics and using their Secret Decoder. Rm gsv ozhg hvmgvmxv lu gsrh yolt blf droo urmw kvirlw. Xorxp lm rg zmw dzrg uli z Nlmhgvi Vtt gl wldmolzw!
This is the rough layout I sent to DC’s art director Louis Prandi. Louis did a great job putting the whole package together!.

Hey Mr.Smith,
My name is David Arroyo i host a podcast called Comic Makers. Anyway i will be covering the NY Comic Con for Comic Book Resources. I was wondering if i could interview you while your there. I know your very busy but i will be brief and i am willing to work around your shedule.
Please let me know if this is possible.

Looks like Mister Mind needs spelling lessons!
The third word in the secret message should read “ozhg” instead of “ovhg.”

Great issue this week!
After reading it myself Wednesday night, I sat down with my 3 year old and read it to him. Panel by panel. He loved it! He even was laughing out loud at parts! He never knew that heroes liked hot dogs!
Now I have a 3 year old yelling out “tazam” and calling himself Captain Marvel.
I’m looking forward to reading issue #2 with him next month.
Thanks!
Chris Neeson AKA Ben’s dad.

Congratulations, You just saved Captain Marvel Jeff. Read it last night(Thurs.),And loved it.
Issue two’s just a few weeks away and I’m more than happy for it.
Say do you have any idea what your going to put in the hardcover edition, when D.C. puts that out by years end?
Cause I plan on buying it just to have it in a solid volume.
Oh, And the blog surprise was GREAT! What kind of brush do you use by the way?
But once again fantastic job.
Thank You,
W. Pardlow

David,
My schedule in NYC is completely nuts, you’re right! But if you write back to Kathleen through the contact forums, she can help figure out if it’s possible. Thanks.

Jeff, that monster egg was monstrously cool! Thanks so much for posting that! Loved this edition of the blog – as always, the behind-the-scenes stuff is just fantastic. The inside covers WERE really well done and look great.
Joe Rice – just awesome, man. Thanks for popping over here and sharing that with all of us!

Hi Jeff-
Just noticed MSoE #4 isn’t included in DC’s May solicitations. Is there a delay? Say it ain’t so!
Thanks!

Any chance of a black and white edition??

Joe, your pics of your classroom holding up comics is priceless! Thanks for sharing.
Sandy, no delay yet – - just being cautious. I’m finishing up #4 as we speak.

Dear Jeff Smith,
I know that you’re crazy busy for the NYCC, but is there any chance you could stop by Joe’s classroom in Brooklyn while you’re in town?
If it’s possible, how do we make it happen?
Thanks for your time!

Oh, and before I forget, after reading your comic I’m totally giddy. That last panel was just an awesome cap (no pun intended) to the story. You managed to be faithful to the original (panels that are an homage to C.C. Beck, the overall tone, the sense of whimsy) while at the same time bring a lot of new, cool stuff like Cap’s attitude with the Wizard and the people around him, Billy’s friend, and hotdogs!!!!
Can’t wait for the next issue!
-f. again
still in Brooklyn, NY

Hi Jeff!
I just read MSoE#1…AMAZING!
Cap Marvel is finally come back to his roots, but with a modern point of view!
The train was a great homage to C.C.Beck!
I’m so sad I couldn’t go to Lucca to see you! Please come back to Italy again!
Luca,
from Rome!

f.,
Glad you enjoyed the book.
As you can guess, my schedule is nuts in NYC this coming weekend. As much as I would like to, there is really no chance I’ll be able to add anything to my schedule.
