Shazam! MSoE #3 on sale Wednesday!
Issue #3 of The Monster Society of Evil will be in stores Wednesday, May 2.
Here’s what The Onion A.V. Club has to say about the first two issues:
“In figuring out how to update Captain Marvel without losing his retro charm, no one has an edge on Jeff Smith, whose miniseries Shazam!: The Monster Society Of Evil (DC) features all the talking alligators and put-upon wizards that made the original Captain Marvel stories such a kick, while still reading like something produced in 2007. Bringing the same thick lines and animated expression that he brought to his own Bone series, Smith recasts the Captain Marvel origin story in a kid-friendly sci-fi/fantasy vein, making boy hero Billy Batson into an urchin on the verge of becoming another Harry Potter. Slick, bright, emotional and witty, The Monster Society Of Evil is everything superhero comics should be… GRADE A”
MONSTER SOCIETY EXTRA CREDIT POINTS:
Only one of these US Attorney Generals is a comic book super-villain – - can you guess which one?

Here are some hints: US Attorney General Gonzales must go (The Seattle Times), Gonzales Defends Domestic Spying (CBS News), Gonzales torture memo controversy builds (USA Today),and Gonzales: ‘There Is No Express Grant of Habeas Corpus In The Constitution’ (Think Progress).
And people said Dr. Sivana as Attorney General was out of character!
Below is a sneak peek at the full cover, which continues to add to the back cover puzzle.

Very cool!
I really dig those inking “mini-movies”. Very fun and inspiring.
Before I go, here’s a “tools-of-the-trade-geek” question for you Jeff (in case you’re reading): what type of brush is your personal fave? I’m pretty new to the whole inking with a brush thing and love experimenting.
Thanks in advance and all the best,
Scott

I ink with a sable hair brush; which means horse hair. The brand I like is Winsor&Newton and the size I use is a No.1. So, all in one go: Series 7 Finest Sable Winsor&Newton No.1.

I bought Shazam! The Monster Society of Evil #3 today. When I got home I set aside the new Overstreet Price Guide to read Shazam! MSoE #3 first. Good stuff! I’ve really been impressd with this series so far, and I’m looking forward to #4.

I love this series, and you’ve done a great job on it. This is the first comic book series that my son has shown interest in, and we have sat down and read every issue together. He has really enjoyed this series, and that makes it twice as sweet for me. Thank you very much for that.

And not to troll the comments or anything, but I’ve (finally!) got the second of those essays on Bone posted: http://www.scificatholic.com/2007/05/vivisection-of-bone-part-2-mytho-bone.html

Just read it today. Loved it of course. Only sad that it’s only got one more issue to go. I hope you and DC can decide to do another mini at least.

I love your Shazam! The Monster Society of Evil. It`s nice but I have this feeling that each issue that comes out is not as good as the previews one.
Also I respect Steve Hamaker work as colorist, and my opinion will differ on the perspective of each reader. It`s just that I feel the colors too watered sometimes, I would love to see Captain Marvel Reds and Yellows more intense.
Take Care.

I really, really miss the letters column in comics. It’s very hard to express one’s opinion (positive or negative) about comics these days. Apart from spending that all-mighty dollar, of course. Anyway, I’d like to remark that Shazam! The Monster Society of Evil is one of the greatest pieces of literature I’ve picked up in a good year now and I will probably feel a similar sense of loss (like that of a good friend) when it ends that I did at the last page of Bone. In short, keep up the good work.

I just wanted to say I am not a very big fan of DC, though I picked up Shazam because the art looked very nice, and I just wanted to say that you’ve made one of the most adorable comics I have ever read, with lovely endearing characters.. I hope that that’s a compliment
