Hi all!  Just a quick post to let you know about an interview that The Pulse did with me about coloring Bone and other comic related things!

Jeff and I will have some really fun things to show off in the next few weeks, so stay tuned!

  1. Nice interview & I learned more than a few things. Its really interesting how the color enhances the B&W work. For me, in Bone, it brings out the body language more. In Shazam, its rich without being overpowering. Really nice work!

  2. That’s very cool, Steve, you seem to be getting more and more recognition now, which is awesome. I’ll have to admit though, I wasn’t the biggest fan of the coloring on Bone initially, and I think that had largely to do with the fact that I’ve been a huge Bone fan since around issue 8 or 9 of the series and the coloring just didn’t quite do it for me, I expected something more from it. Or maybe it wasn’t even that, I couldn’t really say, and I don’t think it had anything to do with the job you were doing because I really like it now and I can see how you have improved through the series and are doing really awesome work now. In fact, I think you are doing a fantastic job! :)

    Take care,
    -Kev

  8. Jeff- I got Bone one volume edition last month. Your work is awesome. It’s like watching a movie play out.

I’m a professional cartoonist as well. Keep up the good work. My best for more great work ahead.

  11. Hi, Mr. Smith!

I met you about 12 years ago when you came to a small town in Georgia called Waycross. You were nice enough to show us how you drew your comics and you even signed every issue of Bone I had! I was a huge fan of your comics back then, and I made it a point never to miss an issue. I shipped off to the military a few years later, and I never got to finish your books, but I walked into Books-A-Million a few days ago, and there was your Bone Collection Vol. 1! Your art, comedic timing, and use of facial expressions is REALLY unmatched. I sat down and I read through most of the book the first night I purchased it. Now I feel like I am a young teen again, reading comics. I hope that perhaps someday I can attend a comic show and you will be there! Until then, thanks for the memories and timeless humor. I wish you much success in the future and thanks for everything. I am going to enjoy finishing this book over the next few days.
