Bone Volume 7: Ghost Circles Arrives!!
Steve here! We received our comp copies of the newest Bone book from Scholastic! I'm very happy with the printing quality, as always, and the story is really hitting hard! We only have one more book to color as I finish working on Volume 8: Treasure Hunters very soon!

As I've said in the past, working on the colorized Bone books has been an awesome experience, and I will be sad when it's over. Also, very relieved and proud!!
The books are hitting stores now, so post a comment if you see them in your area! We love to hear from the fans when they get their brand new books!
You can buy the book here if you can't find it in your area.

I got mine last Friday! Beautiful work as always.
I’m reading these (before passing them to my nephew) for the first time as they come out. He loves it (Rock Jaw’s his favorite so far) and I’m blown away by the quality.

I don’t know if it’s there yet, but I’ll be swinging by Quimby’s (in Chicago) right after work to check. Thanks!

I saw it on the shelf, but I recently got into the Bone books and I just broke the bank and bought the first 6! What a great series.

Freaking Amazing work. Aboslutely mind-blowing.
I really liked the use of the reds, yellows, browns and oranges.
And the Ghost circles are really cool as the rat creatures dissapear.
I always imagined for some reason that it looked like the rat creatures were exploding., lol.
but awesome, awesome job

Can I re-post from the previous entry since this one wasn’t up yet? Hope that’s cool
I just received my hardcover of Bone 7 as well as the paperback I ordered for my brother. The glossy cover on the hardcover – both the book itself and the jacket – gives slightly darker but also slightly richer colours, enough to be noticeable, but the cover is gorgeous either way. The tone of the paperback cover is more aqua. I’m still loving the solid colour backs of the hardcover books. Also, if I’m not mistaken, this is the first of the hardcover books to be bound with sewn binding. This allows the pages to spread open further on the hardcover, which is especially cool for the three epic spreads in this volume. The bleakest of the Bone books, Steve still does a lot of really cool things with the colours and again, as always, brings the story to new life. I would imagine it was a bit of an easier volume to colour, but at 150 pages it’s wonderfully thick again after the slightly shorter books 5 and 6. It’s a bit of a breather and prelude to the upcoming excitement of Atheia and all the fantastic colouring that awaits in the final two volumes! Amazing job Jeff and Steve! It was worth the wait

Hey I don’t know if anyone has this, but for the hard cover, the colors really good and the pages are smooth and stuff, but like on page 139 its smooth and the color of the sky is that nice yellow-tan, then on pages 140 – 141, the colors are very red and the sky is darker and the page actually feels dusty like but as weird as it may sound, the next page 142 is perfectly normal again from there on and the sky and color scheme is normal, and the page is smoothe again.
Is that supposed to be like that?
Comment by Marcus — January 24, 2008 @ 11:21 pm
Yup, I noticed that too. If you hold the page at an angle to the light, you can see there’s a slightly different texture to the areas in color and the areas that are filled black. You can see that different colors reflect light to a different degree. Try it on the third panel on page 138, it’s especially obvious what I mean. I’m not sure why the actual feel is different on some pages and not others, but it’s something to do with the printing process, I suppose, the type of paper and the type of ink.
Comment by Brandon — January 24, 2008 @ 11:36 pm
The 138 was fine for me. Well its minor, so no big thing
Comment by Marcus — January 25, 2008 @ 8:54 am
Bone in colour is great!!
I also realized that scholastic,s “dusty Pages”- the ones with a different texture are starting to show up in their graphic novels– almost every page of my Amulet ( by Kazu Kibuishi) is dusty!!!
What’s wrong with Scolastic these days?!! the books are of much lower quality!!!

I got it last week and I’m still reading it again and again! I’ve started my own prequel series to the first bone book, out from Boneville, called the tales from Boneville. I’ve made two books already and sold them at my school earning about 65 dollars afterwards, allowing me to get a drawing table. now as i work on the 3rd one and get influence from ghost circles, i thank you Jeff smith, for you have inspired me to become a cartoonist.

It looks amazing. It was great in b & W, so I can’t wait to see the color version!

I LOVE numbers one through six. I was walking in b&n(barnes and noble) a long while ago, and on the new shelf i saw the first bone book. it intrested me just seeing the cover, so i picked it up. I opened the book to see it was a comic (my favorite) I got hooked on, and had to figure out what was going to happen. the susspense has kept up through the series, and Ghost circles, i hope keeps up that susspense, and hopefully brings back bartleberry.

Hi! I bought #7 two days ago for my 8 year old son Simon. He has been home sick with strep throat all week but he has been reading Bone to make him feel better. You should have seen his smile when I came home with #7! Now we are playing games and reading bios on the Scholastic webpage. We are all Bone, all the time!
Thanks so much!!! (And we live in Cleveland–when are you coming here?)

Steve is just finishing up the color on book 8, The Treasure Hunters. I’ve seen it and it looks fantastic. It will come out this summer.
Maybe I can get Steve to put up some sneak peek color pages from #8 on the blog.
Comment by Jeff — January 29, 2008 @ 7:55 am
Ha, wicked.
From the Coloring Video 4 Steve has, there was one panel, it looked fantastic.
Ohh Crown of Horns is going to be epic.
Does photoshop count as graphic design because seriously this deserves like an award for Outstaning Achievement or something

Hi,
My son, 7 years old, loves all the Bone books. I’m just a bit worried if they’re appropriate for his age. Does anyone know anything about it? My son reads each book in just a few hours! After reading about 5 of them, he started to write his own chapter book!
Cheers,
Mojan
Comment by Mojan — October 27, 2008 @ 9:45 pm
Mojan, I’ll be honest with you. I didn’t write Bone for children, I wrote it for adults. That said, Scholastic and parents around the world think it is a safe children’s book. So what do I know? And I’ve been to many countries and seen a lot of 5 and 7 year olds reading and liking the books.
Take a look at the books and see what you think. You can also visit Scholastic’s website: there is button to take you there at the top of this page.
Good luck!
