RASL #2 IN STORES TOMORROW; and a reminder that RASL is for mature readers.

Filed under: Comics!, Drawing Board, News, RASL, Self-Publishing — Jeff @ 2:49 pm

Great news! Diamond Comic Distributors has just confirmed that RASL# 2 will be in stores tomorrow, June 18, one week earlier than we thought. Thanks to Jog - The Blog for tipping me off.

Don’t forget that RASL is for mature readers. I’m actually printing that on the book this time because at the last few events I’ve attended (BONE & BEYOND at the Wexner Center, and Book Expo America) a lot of parents and librarians were picking up copies of RASL for their kids. I thought I’d done enough interviews over the last year to spread the word about the more grown-up noir aspects of this title, but maybe not.

Anyway, I’m glad #2 is here. It’s 32 pages of comics… and here is a preview of the first three pages to wet your appetite. You can click on the images to view them larger.

  2. That is bad @$$.
    Can’t wait to order it.
So will RASL be a series of story arcs? Because I figure then they could be collected into graphic novels like Bone.
Or will it just be a one volume type thing?

  3. Just curious,
what do you mean by Mature Readers

  8. Hi everybody. It’s answer time w/Tom: RASL is a single story and the first trade paperback will come out in November. The mature content in RASL is the three things you mentioned G, however I wouldn’t consider it over the top. Teal, you need to pick up Shazam. Its awesome! and finally, Jeff won’t be in San Diego this year unfortunately.

  9. When you say single story, do you mean it’s collected into a paperback after a certain amount of issues?

If the first one is in November… then that would mean there’s only 3 issues in the book right?
Considering #1 came out in February
#2 came out Now in June
and #3 comes out in September.
I kinda figured trades usually carry 4 to 5 issues (at least).
    But I guess a 96 page book 1 wouldn’t be too bad.

  10. Yes, Marcus, you are exactly right. RASL vol.1 will collect the first three issues and have 96 pages of comics…

RASL comics are longer than most comic books, so three issues of RASL equals five of a normal book, so it takes less issues to make up a trade collection…to compare, for example, Terry Moore’s excellent new comic ECHO will collect the first five issues into a trade, comprising around a 100 pages of comics.

  11. Loved issue 2… worth the wait! And I love the pacing. The 32-page issue length is great for the pacing too. Plus - no ads in the comic! Gotta love that! This is a quality book - makes me feel like I did when I was 10 years old and first discovering comics, going to the comic shop every weekend. Considered adding a letter column? Has the final format for the trades been decided? Are they going to be oversized and/or in color?

    Comment by Brandon Klassen — June 23, 2008 @ 11:37 am

  12. Oookay.
That’s true, since most comics are like 20-24 pages.
Thanks for the tip about echo too, maybe the nearby library has it.
Btw, I’ll probably just collect the comics and possibly (in a few years time) get the trades. This is my first time collecting an actual series issue by issue.
Is it possible the trades will have a cover gallery?

  13. Highly recommended. Although RASL lacks some of the other worldly charms that BONE had, it is doing a great job of pulling me into this unique brand of fantastic-realism. These first two issues are nicely setting up the pins for this play. I hope that the 3rd issue brings it farther than set up, however.

  14. The conclusion of the first arc (1-3) should be interesting. I wonder what kind characters will be introduced. I ordered issues 1 and 2 a few days ago.

More or less, it takes part in real-world settings, right?

  15. Hola, In the recent Murakami exhibit, which totally ruled, there was a store selling very expensive Louis Vuitton purses that was part of the show–like in the middle of the gallery space right before most of the new work.

I have been loosing sleep over the thought of what would happen if someone “stole” one of these purses? Would they be accused of stealing Art with a capital A because it is in a museum and part of the curated show; or rather would it be a case of simple shop lifting.

I have finished reading issue two & I think I may have my answer. thank you and keep up the great work! David S

  16. Hm. You know?
I think its stealing art. Actually stealing any form of art is bad, famous or not.
Well, that and shoplifting is just bad too in general.

Man that issue 2 sounds great.

  17. Jeeesus the first 2 issues were Fan-freaking-tastic.

    The pacing is well-done.
I like the characted development thats going on with RASL too.

I wonder if Lizard-faced guy comes back?

  19. Jeff/ (Or anyone with knowledge on this).
Will the comics be released around the same time of the month? (18th or in that week)?

    Comment by Marcus — July 6, 2008 @ 11:55 am

  20. Marcus, RASL #3 should be in stores on the 17th or 24th of September.
