First of all I should probably make an introduction. "My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die." –the Princess Bride. Sorry about that, I felt the need to write something random, anyways, my name is Jake Zani (sound familiar?). In case you don't remember I am Suzy's son who you met at the Marriot hotel on your parent's (50th?) wedding anaversiry. I am the one who ate about as much as a horse at the buffet for breakfast.

Now, I am working on developing my drawing skills (I was at that time too, but not seriously). I think I would like to try my hand at some fantasy cartooning (sorry but I prefer to call it "graphic noveling"). I have a story that me and some friends of mine have been working on and I think I may use that as the basis for strip.

I have a deviantArt account (if you aren't familiar with the site go to fantasypanther.deviantart.com that is my profile). Once you've located my profile, scroll down until, on the left hand side of the page you see a box titled "Recent Deviations". The art work that I've posted is in that box, if you would be so kind as to critique it I would greatly appriciate it. You can either post comments there (although you may need a DA account to do so) or you can email them to me. My email account is located on the site on the right hand side in the box titled "Devious Info," it is the first thing in the box.

Thank you for taking the time to read this lengthy "comment" about the Book Expo America (it sounds like it was a lot of fun, wish I'd known about).

I hope to hear from you soon.

Damn, makes me jealous that I wasn't there. What a really cool assembly of people to talk about this stuff. I've always loved how the great creators from this world care so much about the history, evolution, and preservation of its legacy. Each fan comes into this in one way or another, but we all end up being amateur historians talking about the earlier works that meant so much. It reminds me of the great movie creators that are so concerned with the heritage of their world. If it were an SAT question, it would be phrased like this...

Art Spiegelman:comics::Marty Scorsese:movies

On top of that, how cool is it to see Jeff pulling cred with the suits AND with the rockers?! Leave it to a comic book guy to be able to hang out with the Socs and the Greasers.

Hey Jeff, the breakfast was such a great moment and it was fun to watch the exchanges between you and the panelists.

I thought there was a really cool contrast between the breakfast panel and the one Gene Yang did on Emerging GN Authors. In the morning you had originators and innovators from (dare i say this?) from a watershed moment in gn publishing and then, you had "the new kids" who think nothing of drawing with what ever medium is next to their hands.

I dont know if you heard Kazu talking about his work day prior to the panel but it sounds like most of the time is spent playing Halo. Then, another hour or two on drawing.

Even so, the contrast was really pretty cool.

What a day it was. And thanks again for doing the moderating for the breakfast.
