BONE and Beyond Hardcover Exhibition Catalog still on sale!

With the overwhelming success of the Before Bone book and its complete sell-out, I wanted to let everybody know that the Jeff Smith: Bone and Beyond exhibition catalog is still available. If you can’t make it to the exhibit (you still have a month left), you can see everything here, plus a lot more.

Jeff Smith: Bone and Beyond is a 96 page, hardcover catalog and is illustrated throughout. It has a foreword by Sherri Geldin, an introduction by Lucy Shelton Caswell, with text by Dave Filipi, Scott McCloud and Neil Gaiman.

Published in conjunction with the Wexner Center and the Cartoon Research Library’s 2008 exhibition, this catalogue presents work featured in the show, including examples of Smith’s original drawings for Bone, plus the more recent Shazam and RASL.

Also featured are selected works by cartoonists who have influenced Smith, such as George Herriman, Charles Schulz and Walt Kelly, and essays by comic book and fantasy author Neil Gaiman, comic book artist and scholar Scott McCloud and Wexner Center film/video curator David Filipi, the exhibition’s co-curator. Cartoon Research Library curator Lucy Shelton Caswell, the exhibition’s other co-curator, provides an introduction. The size is 10.5 x 9.5 in.

You can see some images of the book that were taken by a reader here.

You can purchase a copy from us in the store or at the Wexner shop site.

  1. Dear Mr. Smith

do you have a business e-mail? I am a fine art printer, but I’m loathe to make a business proposition to you on your blog…

  2. I found this book and BEFORE BONE really valuable, especially since there is no new BONE stuff out.
& if you’re a fan of Scott McCloud’s writing on comics, which I am,this book contains a great essay on many facets of BONE. Thanks to everybody who put this show together.

  3. Simon – Jeff doesn’t have a direct email listed, but you can contact the Boneville team through the contact form in the contact section of this website. They can address your questions and/or forward your proposition to the appropriate people. The Boneville team is pretty awesome and they’ve been timely and helpful to me in the past.

  5. Hi! Is this the same edition that is being offered in this month’s Diamond Previews?

  6. It sounds like a nice book but I wish that there would have been more copies of the Before Bone book available for sale. I don’t suppose they’ll consider printing more copies.

  7. Joe,

Yes, it should be. It seems the book is also popping up on the big bookstore chains such as, in Canada, http://www.Chapters.ca.

    Jeanette,

Just as Bone & Beyond is now under wider distribution, I wouldn’t be surprised if Before Bone hits wider distribution as well. The exact wording of the edition on the inside of Before Bone is “Of this first edition of Jeff Smith: BEFORE BONE 500 signed and numbered copies have been printed. This is copy number ###”. This wording was not explicit in the various online descriptions of the book – and of course, for $25.00 I think it was, it’s a great deal having one of only 500 of the first edition and signed by Jeff. But in my experience, this wording almost guarantees a more widespread edition to follow at some point.

  8. Thank you for your responce Brandon

I agree it is a great price but the order method made it difficult to garantee a copy. A sign book would have been nice but I’ll just settle for the book itself! I had also pre-ordered Jeff Smith: Bone and Beyond which I had forgotten about when I had posted above lol. I should be getting my order soon and well be enjoying another wonderful Bone related book. :)

  9. I think that maybe the order-method was a bit intentionally “difficult” so as to try to maintain some amount of copies for actual visitors to the exhibition, and maybe also to cut-down on the number of people buying it only for immediate eBay-reselling (and having already seen 10-15 copies go on that site for upwards of 75 and 100 dollars already, this obviously did not work, if intended… too bad).

  10. Yeah I saw that and it’s riduculous that people would do that! I’m just hoping that if and when they are reprinted I could get my copy and possibly signed at a con.

  11. Hello RASL Fan,

I think you will be interested :)

You can Pre Order the Rasl Blk T/S Xxl

Rasl Blk T/S Xxl is an Urban-Collector pre-order. Jeff Smith the creator of Bone, returns with his new project. Rasl T-Shirt features art by Jeff screenprinted in color on a black 100% cotton shirt. At the request of creator, this shirt is being printed on a T-Shirt manufactured by American Apparel. It has a more stylish cut, it’s a different weight of fabric (still 100% cotton), it’s made in the U.S.A….and it’s also slightly more expensive. Rasl is a 100% class-act!!

Rasl Blk T/S Xxl is a pre-order item.
