  1. Friggin’ A, dude.
    That is just amazing.
The expressions and detail in those few pages alone was great.
I think I know now where that whole desert thing begins and ends up now.
    =D

I’ve got sleeves for the issues and come December I’ll be definitely wanting the trade.

    Great work.

  3. Hey Jeff?
Theres like this Blank box of white with like a little red x in the upper left corner. This is like before the preview pages.
Was it supposed to be the cover?
Or maybe some kind of image upload error or something?

  4. The first two issues of RASL are awesome and number 3 is shaping up to be the best one yet. This preview has me completely psyched for more. Great job, Jeff.

  7. Page 3 has a fantastic amount of detail (especially in the facial expression).

I laughed at that whole bit with the Jeep.

  8. totally unrelated, but I just saw this video of a stuffed animal floating onto the freeway and causing a major accident…

It looks sorta like a stuffed Font Bone toy???

  12. Marcus, if you are asking about delivery from boneville.com, it should only take a few days to get a copy of RASL.
We say that it may take UP TO two or three weeks for orders, but a single comic won’t take that long.

    Comment by Jeff — October 17, 2008 @ 1:50 pm

  13. Oh, ok.
Yeah I’ve never really bought from an independent company/seller before. And I remember B and N/Borders took a couple weeks.

    Thanks for the response Jeff.

  14. By the way, for the paperback:
From what I’ve seen its going to be 112 pages.
Will there be a cover gallery/extra stuff?

  15. Just finished RASL #3 — it was great, kicked everything up a couple of notches, holds great promise and left me wanting more.

Which leads to the question: why so long between issues? I know you can’t rush quality, but five months is a long time to wait. I’m 60, and at this rate I could dead of old age before the story wraps.

    Comment by Terry Dawson — October 18, 2008 @ 10:37 am

  16. Terry,
Oh my! I’ll try to speed things up.

Seriously, it really takes me that long to write and draw each issue. And you can ask anyone here at Cartoon Books – - I can barely get it done in that much time.

Partly it is because I’m no Spring chicken myself, and keeping up the kind of page rate that I used to for BONE is hard to do. Also, RASL is a more complicated story, about physics and the military, and different cultures, art, and basically a lot of things that I don’t know as well as I knew high fantasy and nature. I spend a lot time doing research for the story as well as the art.

Still, I had a lot more distractions this past year than usual (mostly good ones like the WB movie deal and the Wexner exhibit), maybe I can tighten things up for next year.

  17. Its cool that you’re covering different grounds and stuff though.

I actually looked up Maxwell’s Equations.
They exist (but confused the heck outta me).

The mask he wears for part of his suit.
For some reason the design seems kind of…
    foreign?
Like… a ritual mask or something.
    Idk it seems familiar.

  19. Jeff,
I currently take a class about Graphic novels at Ohio State University Outreach program for Columbus City School Teachers. My professor Dr. Susan Hayward created it. This is all very new to us. I know you are so busy but we would love if you had some time if you would come talk to our class. If there is anyway you could, please, please contact me. We are all learning and are totally light years away from the kids :)
    Thanks,
    Coffey

  20. I havent read #3 yet.
I got the issue but it was damaged partly and I kinda didnt want to mess with it.

I’ve sent an email though to Tom about a replacement issue.

    Does cartoon books do that?

  22. Just reviewed issue three on my personal blog. I don’t pull my punches but I thought it was a great book. Another comic creator friend of mine thought I should mention it.
