  9. Hey Jeff,

All those late nights on magic beans and Butterfingers were worth it; I even got the “sound effects” thing again with these very cinematic pages. And yeah, I can see why the not there ship was a total pain in the ass!

Congrats! Now back to writing with ya! ;-)

  11. You know one of the many things I’ve come to admire about this series is the covers.
For some reason I just really like the color choices with the light orange and maroon in the background.
What’s up with the vertical swooshy thing going on though, was that just kind of a design idea? It looks cool, but hard to make.

  12. Oh my goodness. Thank you. I’ve been bugging my local comic shop forever, and when I come in next week I won’t be ushered out the door in refusal AGAIN. I’ve been waiting, so THANK YOU JEFF.

  13. Oh no! This looks amazing! I really want to read this, but I’m going to torture myself and not read this sneak peak until I have the whole issue in my hands! This is very unfortunate since I had planned to visit my not-so-local but favourite comic book store on the 21st… I know, stupid timing, but I’m going to be in that area of town on that day. Sigh… The good news is that FCBD May 2nd is just around the corner! :D

    Comment by Brandon — April 16, 2009 @ 1:39 am

  14. Oh snap! That’s right! I haven’t gone to a shop for FCBD in like a couple of years.

  15. I just wanted to drop you a note to let you know how much of a difference you’ve made in one child’s life. My 9 year old son Ben used to hate reading. He has Aspergers and it made learning to read pure frustration.

Then this past summer he saw one of the Bones books at the library and borrowed it. He’s hooked!

It’s still slow-going for him, but he’s now read the first 4 and is hunting for book 5 so he can get on with that one.

  18. Aw man…

    Welll if I may ask,
how planned out is RASL #5?
Theres a source saying it’ll be out June 24th, but it looks like its leaning toward early July at least at this point.

    Any comment/opinion?

  20. Marcus,
    No.5 will be in July.
I’ll be putting a post up soon about the new RASL release schedule for the rest of the year, so things will be more clear.

  21. Super, thank you.

  22. Is there a PO Box/address at which fans can write you? (I realize you must get a lot of mail, but I thought it worth asking!) Thanks!

    Comment by LW — April 23, 2009 @ 2:42 am

  23. Heeey I just found the address in the RASL book.
    It is:

    Cartoon Books
    P.O. Box 16973
    Columbus, OH 43216

    Comment by Marcus — April 23, 2009 @ 8:17 am

  24. Yes, that address is correct, and please write! I’m putting a letters page in the future RASL comics. Issue #4 has a small letters page on the inside back cover.
I’m looking forward to hearing everyone’s thoughts on #4 when it comes out next week!

    Comment by Jeff — April 23, 2009 @ 12:22 pm

  25. Lol I already know I’m writing one.

    Comment by Marcus — April 23, 2009 @ 2:06 pm

  26. Hey for a letters page, is it just questions? Or can it be feedback and stuff too?

    Comment by Marcus — April 23, 2009 @ 2:07 pm

  27. Woot! Picked up issue 4, read it right away… wow, just throwing a little backstory in there, eh? I love it! Felt kinda like some of the best stories from the X-Files. The reveal at the top of page 6 with the ocean… incredible! The thicker lines on the middle 2 panels of page 24 – both the narration boxes and Tesla – distracted me momentarily, seeming out of place. The girl is creepy! And woah – you printed my email / blog post / I can’t remember when I wrote that. SWEET! Even with the instant communication of the internet, email and blogs, it’s awesome to have a real letter column in a comic again. Hopefully you get some cool real letters in the mail! It’s shaping up to be a great cast of characters. The exposition was a bit heavy this time around, I can see the purpose of it but maybe next time there could be a new character who was on that ship at the time, and we experience the backstory through his memories from his POV – could be a great character, he was young then, he’s an old man now – could open the door to some great plot lines! Now that I’ve read issue 4 I’m off to read the trade again – in its gloriously large size! (Oh, and for the next collection, issue 4 page 27, third panel, “ANNIE S”, there’s a space for an apostrophe but it’s missing.)

    Comment by Brandon — May 2, 2009 @ 6:09 pm

  28. Hey Jeff!
Just read RASL #4. Completely blew my mind, I can’t begin to describe it.

That exposition with the Philedelphia Experiment and the Tesla/FDR/Einstein relationship was interesting, and that girl gave me the spooks.

Learning both RASL’s full name and the Assassin’s first was great; I think the relationship between them is interesting.
Speaking of relationships I can’t wait to see how he’s going to be seeing Annie and Maya now that he’s safe for a while.

I honestly understand now why it took 6 and a half months, and let me say: It was worth it. Will we be seeing any visits to the desert, the Compound, or that pebble-throwing scene at all? It seems like such a hidden treasure to find out in the story.
    Thanks a ton.
