  1. Very cool! Would love to see this, hopefully it’s available on DVD or something at some point. I really like Lucy’s quote in that trailer, it’s one of the key things I’ve always said about Jeff Smith and Bone:

“Most comic books are group efforts, and the fact that one person wrote, and drew this entire narrative – conceived, wrote and drew the narrative – is truly astonishing.”

I also love the kid who says he’s read Bone 9 times and he never gets tired of it! Surely that’s how we all feel! What a great tribute to Bone and Jeff.

  2. I love it! I wish I could see it. How could I go about having a local showing at our indy movie theatre in town?

  3. Siiiick!
    Can’t wait to watch it!
Seriously, though Brandon, that is cool.

I think I’m one of the people who’s read it nine times, lol

  4. Oh just to avoid confusion, I didn’t mean that I had actually said that. The quote is what Lucy said… but whenever I’m telling someone about Bone, and the article/interview I did with Jeff a while ago now, that same point is one I like to make. That a single person has that much creativity is just amazing! And especially Jeff – I mean for goodness’ sake, as it’s been said a lot, Bone is the LOTR of the comic book world! And I just made this up right now, but I’m still waiting for the “Museum Edition” of Bone that reproduces the entire saga in three hardcover volumes with scans of each page as original art at their original sizes! Really. I don’t have enough copies of Bone. I need more variations to choose from!

  6. Wow, how cool is that. I’m tempted to make the trip from Cleveland to see this Friday.

  7. The quote from the great Paul Pope pretty much sums it up for me. Whenever I look at Jeff’s work, there is never really a point where I want to be Jeff Smith (what would be the point of being a second-rate Jeff Smith?!); I am inspired to become a better artist/storyteller.

And the idea of Museum Editions makes me feel all sorts of goofy…Brandon, you’re a genius! ;)

I believe I need that DVD immediately…or at least a plane ticket to Columbus!

  11. It will definitely be a dvd, available sometime this summer. I just don’t have the details. I also think the filmmakers are planning other kinds of releases, maybe on TV or something. I’ll get some more info when I see them on Friday and post an update.

  12. The idea of a “Museum Edition” came naturally from other books out there. All the original Hellboy comics, when Mike Mignola was doing all the art, are collected in these huge “Library Edition” books. They’re pretty awesome, and one of the best things about those is the large amount of sketches and bonus material in each volume. Then there’s the recent Mouse Guard Fall 1152 “Black and White Edition,” a limited edition of 1,000 copies. No bonus material, but it reprints the artwork as inked in black and white without color, as David Petersen originally meant the book to be, in the size of the original artwork, which is huge at 12″ x 12″. It’s simply amazing to look at. I wish that the Bone One Volume hardcover would return in a new edition… and I’m still hoping for a “One Volume” of color hardcovers, maybe in a 3 volume set and in a larger size than the 9 volume Scholastic set. But I definitely think “Museum Editions” would be brilliant, giving Bone fans and cartoon enthusiasts a way to “own” all the original Bone artwork. And like the Hellboy Library Editions, this would definitely be a chance to include a wealth of bonus material – though I love it, Dark Horse’s wonderful “Art of Bone” just left me wanting more. Jeff recently mentioned “a couple of projects that I’m not ready to announce yet.” There wasn’t a lot of speculation on that blog entry… but I’d be willing to bet at least one of them is Bone related. Here’s hoping to finally see in print a complete hardcover collection of the Thorn daily newspaper strips – with extras, as always! Alright, that’s enough from this broken record for today :)

  17. This is a must see film. The film itself draws you into the life of an artist, the artist, Jeff Smith. The film is so well made the time flies by with vivid photography and larger in life 3-D Bone. I fell in love with Fone Bone a long while ago. It is refreshing to be able to come out of the woodwork so to speak and tell people I love comic book stories. If a person doesn’t know anything about comic books after seeing this film they will fall in love with the artform. BRAVO to Jeff Smith and the film crew. And, thanks Jeff Smith for creating such a loveable character!
