RASL #5 Preview

RASL #5 will be shipping a week from Wednesday.
As Jeff promised last week, here are 4 pages from the new issue. Just before this scene begins, Rasl has a short black out…
Hope you like it!
RASL #5 will be in comic book stores on Wednesday, July 15th.

Dude. DUDE.
I am so completely blown away by this stuff. Can’t wait to read the rest.

Gripping. This TOTALLY got even more intruiging.
Can’t wait for the issue in the mail,
Kick-ass job.

Good stuff Jeff. I am always excited for your work. There are only a few books that I really look forward to the release of and Rasl is one of them (Along with Echo and Doktor Sleepless lately).
Also, any more info on “The Cartoonist” DVDs? I am excited to check that out.
Comment by William Hoffknecht — July 6, 2009 @ 5:59 pm
Thanks, guys. Just heard that the film maker is planning on having the dvds ready and shipped to San Diego so we can sell them at our booth during Comic-con. I haven’t seen the finished dvds yet myself, so we’re all crossing our fingers that they will get there on time.
If you want to pre-order them, Mills/James, who made the film, has a website:
http://thecartoonistmovie.com/#
It’s a way cooler website than our own boneville!

Marcus, to answer a question you asked on an earlier blog:
yes, I always draw the wavy lines every time. For some reason, I love to push big puddles of ink around on white paper, and I wouldn’t miss a chance to do it!
Comment by Jeff — July 6, 2009 @ 6:26 pm
That’s an interesting way to make a cover! Cool stuff.
Comment by Marcus — July 6, 2009 @ 6:50 pm
That is really cool about the wavy lines! I love the cover for this issue, but as usual, I can’t bring myself to read the preview… I know it’ll just drive me even more crazy than I already am, waiting until the 15th! I’ll use all my willpower and wait until I can read the whole issue on the 15th!
That Cartoonist website *IS* pretty darn cool! With the different layers of the forest moving at different speeds and the sounds, I really feel like I’m in the Valley!

By the way, Jeff, will the DVD be available through Boneville.com as well at some point? Reason is, I want to order some other stuff from Boneville, so as much as I want to pre-order the DVD now, I’d rather wait until it’s available through Boneville so I can combine shipping on my purchases!
Comment by Brandon Klassen — July 6, 2009 @ 10:55 pm
Brandon, I’m working on the “for sale button” for the DVD today and will have that, along with a lot of other NEW things, in the store very, very, soon.
Comment by Tom — July 7, 2009 @ 10:35 am
Oh, boy, MORE NEW stuff for the store?! Awesome, man, awesome.
Comment by Brandon Klassen — July 7, 2009 @ 3:19 pm
New stuff like books? Or toys? Or a whole variety?
Comment by Marcus — July 7, 2009 @ 3:37 pm
Very cool. I swear, every time I think of Bob going home, I start wondering if he’s really there, and I start getting nervous for him immediately. There’s something inherently terrifying or nightmarish about not quite your own world.
I don’t think I need to prep myself by reading the first 4 issues again this time… but I probably will. You’ve made an already promising Wednesday of comics look even better.
Comment by Erik — July 7, 2009 @ 5:43 pm
That was spectacular! RASL is one of the most stunning, jaw dropping, well written comics I have read in a long time. I’m really excited for future issues! Also, I have a question for Jeff: Do you ink with a brush or pens? I was Just wondering because the cover looks amazing.

You know from this preview, you can really tell that you’ve gotten really comfortable and good at drawing your characters. That’s gotta be one of the coolest things is that you’re people look like people (its almost like a style different from Bone but still you’re art.)
Comment by Marcus — July 9, 2009 @ 5:52 pm
I love this book. RASL really stands out from the slew of other titles that all somehow seem the same. I can’t wait for the new issue to come out (it feels like Lost to me–the anticipation of figuring out the mysteries of the story).
Comment by qbauer — July 9, 2009 @ 7:17 pm
Having still not read the preview LOL but just noticing when scrolling past it that the preview gives us another glimpse into the past… I’m really excited for this issue knowing that we’ll get to keep learning more backstory, unfolding in parallel with the current events! I really enjoy that kind of duality in storytelling, structurally. qbauer comparison to Lost in that regard just made me think of that, since I’ve just started watching Season 1 of Lost on Blu-ray!

Hey Jeff, regarding the size of the next collection, do you plan to have it be 3 issues or 4?
In retrospect of reading the first 3 issues in The Drift it really does feel like a story arc. And thinking about it, 104 pages of story telling seems like a good size.
Just a suggestion if it sounds about right.
Comment by Marcus — July 9, 2009 @ 9:41 pm
Heyyy, lookit that little detail, the native-american looking mask he’s drifted with on the wall…
Comment by Marcus — July 10, 2009 @ 12:11 pm
Looks so very good (especially Maya). Oh, and wishing Jeff and all the RASL fans a very happy Nikola Tesla’s Birthday. Just found out thanks to Google that the original mad scientist would be 150 years old(July 10). So if you have anything in your house that generates lightening you should turn it on today… or reread issues 1-4 of RASL which is probably safer.
Comment by Christopher — July 10, 2009 @ 12:12 pm
Heeey, I looked up Wright Patt. That’s an airforce base in Ohio!
Hah, what a coincidence eh Jeff? =p
Somehow I get a feeling this tech stuff of RASL is going to be explored more…

I just picked up Rasl 1-4 at the comic shop today. Awesome stuff!
I drew some fan art, too: http://shatterstripes.livejournal.com/997794.html – hope you like it!
Comment by Egypt Urnash — July 12, 2009 @ 12:25 am
Woah that is some wicked awesome fan art!
Comment by Brandon Klassen — July 12, 2009 @ 3:57 pm
OHHH my god that looks crazy!
Did you do that on Photoshop/Illustrator?
That is so cool, kind of reminded me of Ronin (Frank Miller) for a minute.
Comment by Marcus — July 12, 2009 @ 9:02 pm
All Illustrator. Photoshop and I just don’t get along. *grin*
Comment by Egypt Urnash — July 13, 2009 @ 8:13 pm
Hah, awesome man.
