The Cartoonist DVD on sale now!
Mills James Productions, the company that produced the Jeff Smith documentary, have a beautiful interactive website to purchase the DVD.
The film’s Emmy-winning director, Ken Mills, is also the president of the Columbus-based company.
Ken’s major focus for the last 25 years has been the growth of Mills James Productions, the company he co-founded with partner Cameron James. With buildings packed with studios, edit suites, cutting edge gear and a staff of 140 – writers, producers, directors, DPs, art directors, editors and composers – Mills James resembles a scaled-down version of the classic Hollywood studio.
The employee-owned firm produces commercials, original television productions, documentaries, infomercials, corporate videos, interactive media and special events.
Here are some stills from The Cartoonist: Jeff Smith, BONE and the changing face of comics.

For more information on Mills James, visit the company’s Web site at www.millsjames.com.

Very cool! I love their promo website for the documentary, and the stills have increased my anticipation to see this! When’s it going to show up in the Boneville Store (along with those mysterious other new items you promised), Tom?
I would purchase it from their site, but I want to combine my purchase with other Cartoon Books goodies

The DVD will be available (along with the other items) on our site as soon as we return from Comic-Con next week. Stay tuned!

One tiny question: can this dvd be viewed on region 2 dvd players (in europe)?
Comment by Steven — July 20, 2009 @ 2:42 pm
Is it only available through the website, or would some stores carry it?
Comment by Marcus — July 20, 2009 @ 3:42 pm
Steven, I got in touch with David at Mills James and this is his answer regarding the dvd playing in various regions.
“I spoke with our video compression/format specialist and he said that the master DVD was created region free — meaning it should play in all players. You can play NTSC DVDs on PAL players, but not vice-versa.
There should not be any issues with playing the DVD in various regions. Also, both formats (NTSC and PAL) can definitely be played on a computer.”

The promo site is awesome I love how Old Man’s cave is the backdrop! It reminds me so much of the area of eastern Iowa that I live and grew up in. Can’t wait to see the dvd!

Hah, I just noticed.
Terry Moore and Paul Pope do the same hand-gesture when describing the detail and level of depth to Bone.
=p
I do that to, hahaha.

I can’t wait until I can order this for myself. I admit to eating stuff like this up with a proverbial spoon and the opportunity to really SEE the inside process from one of the greatest living cartoonists is ten kinds of awesome.

Does anyone know what Jeff Smith’s e-mail is? I really need to ask him something!I’m really in to him now because I met him and he signed my books for me in Toronto yesterday! Which was and always will be his only appearance in Canada!

[...] Watching Jeff Smith’s documentary video is quite nice to do while you are drawing comics all night. So inspiring. And I am deliriously happy to see I don’t have a pimple or anything. You can get it here. [...]
