BONE and RASL are now available on PlayStation, and the PSP comics home page this week features Bone!

Here is a little PR blurb about digital  comics from their site:

“With Digital Comics and a PSP® you can own some of the best comics ever written. Just choose your favorite characters, download and enjoy – and with AutoFlow, your eyes are guided across each page just as the artists intended.

With over 2000 new and classic titles to choose from, including over 30 free issues, you’ll never be short of an action-packed adventure.”

  1. Jeff, I have three words for you: ipad, ipad, ipad. It took me years, but I no longer want the physical comic books taking up space in my condo. I’d like to be able to buy them from itunes or Boneville.com or somewhere online and then put them on my ipad so I can sit down and read lots of great stuff all at once.

Can you try doing that with Rasl? I’m sure Bone rights are complicated, but Rasl’s still solely under the Cartoon Books banner, right? Can’t you give a try to putting some high-quality scans viewable on a computer right here on the website? It’s tough to be a pioneer of something like that I know, but if you own all the publishing rights and can do it however you want (and the retail shops wouldn’t be too pissed at you for trying to release it both ways), why not try it? I don’t want the local comic shops to disappear either, but it’s going to happen one day or the next. I’d support digital Rasl!

  2. Jonathan,
I agree with you. Vijaya has an iPad, and there is no question that the reading experience is virtually identical to a real comic book. Maybe better. Don’t worry, we will be exploring iPad adaptations for both BONE and RASL.

The PlayStation digital comics are more about platform. The smaller screen size and different reading options are for people who love their PSPs, and believe me, there are a lot of them!

  4. Yes, Shane, you are allowed to get the book. Bone was not actually banned. The list is of books that were attacked, not about books that are bad. One person tried to have it banned because that person misunderstood or imagined bad things that weren’t there.

You and your parents should decide what books to read, not someone else who wants to make your decisions for you.

  6. I really hope comics don’t go solely to digital. That will be a really sad day.

  7. Jonathan,
I’m with you on the ipad platform. We’ll be making an announcement on Boneville regarding this soon!

  8. To add some belated thoughts to my earlier comment:

    1) When I originally wrote “I don’t want the local comic shops to disappear either, but it’s going to happen one day or the next,” what I meant is that comics being widely/primarily published in digital format is going to happen eventually. I did NOT mean that the local comic shops are doomed to obliteration.

    2) When/if Cartoon Books goes digital, I hope it will not do so via an “app” where all content is stuck within that particular piece of software. I’d much rather have my comic book (or whatever it’s called in digital format) be a file that I can read on many different machines be that phone, desktop, laptop, ipad, etc. If I pay for it, I believe that I own it, and that I can take it with me wherever I choose. I HATE when I purchase some content but it is embedded within some proprietary software that prevents me from reading it how I want. Once you buy a CD (if anyone still does that) you can take it wherever you go and put it into any CD player you want whether that’s in your car, at home, at a friend’s house, a boombox, a full on hi-fi stereo setup, or what have you. Compromises of course have to be made and I’m a pragmatist, but that’s what I hope you’ll strive for ideally. I look forward to your announcement!
