Coming in 2011…One Volume Edition in Full Color
The technology has finally caught up! Through a combination of sewing and glue, we can make a nearly 1400 page color One Volume Edition that lays flat when open!
2011 will be the 20th anniversary of Bone #1, and one of the things we’re doing to celebrate will be putting together the BONE: 20th Anniversary Full Color One Volume Edition. It’s the whole thing in a beautiful hardback book and will include extras. The dimensions: 9 1/4″ x 7″ & the spine is 3″ (very similar to the current black & white paperback) and comes in a slipcase.
More details to come…

YES!!! I’ve been waiting for this!

How much will it cost me?

Ohohoh! I can’t wait for this! I’d love to have both the full color and the black and white versions. I can’t really decide what’s my favorite… so I must have both! I can’t wait to get my greasy little hands on one of those bad-boys!
I can hardly believe BONE has been around for 20 years! Too bad I only discovered it this summer. Better late than never, right? I’m just so glad I found it at all. It’s up there with Star Wars on my list of favorite things!
You’ve become one of my cartoon-creator role-models, Jeff! Thank you SO MUCH for that!

Can’t wait! Just hope the box/cover doesn’t use too much of the Scholastic cover art. The proportions and characters sometimes look off to me.
Nothin’ personal, they just aren’t my favourite as Bone art goes, though the colouring inside their pages is of course fantastic.
Comment by Sean — January 3, 2011 @ 7:08 pm
Thanks for all these great comments, everyone! Very encouraging! Looking forward to sharing more details soon.
Comment by Jeff — January 4, 2011 @ 1:55 pm
Is it going to be a Scholastic book or a Cartoon Books book? Will we be able to pre-order it from Boneville.com? What are the “extras” going to be!
Actually, I have the opposite opinion of Sean (sorry man!) – I LOVE the mockup of the slipcase (black) and book (blue) using the Scholastic art!
I’ve wanted a hardcover one volume ever since I discovered there was a B&W1VHC and I missed it. The fact that it’s going to be the colour edition I’ve been waiting for, for a long time, is icing on the cake! I’m SO stoked! Hurrah for 2011 and many, many celebrations for Bone’s 20th anniversary!
Now we just need a few more hints as to what the 20th anniversary celebrations will include… like TALES FROM THE LANTERN, okay?!
Comment by Brandon Klassen — January 4, 2011 @ 10:07 pm
As someone who loves Bone and has read the whole series – but doesn’t have every issue – and wanting to buy the one-volume pack… what would everyone recommend? Should I get the black/white version or the color version? Do you think the color version adds or detracts from the original black/white work? I guess it would be good to have both versions but as a college student with limited means I prefer getting just one
Comment by Erik — January 7, 2011 @ 12:36 pm
As someone who bought the original floppies, then bought the B&W hardcovers just cause they looked nice on the shelves
. I was hesitating buying the Color Hardcovers as they were of smaller format and my eyes aren’t what they used to be to read small text. (I DID buy the Rose color HC, though).
The colors in the books I thumbed thru were very nice, but I just couldn’t justify buying a 3rd version of books/stories I’d already read/owned.
However I WILL absolutely be getting this one-volume color edition and proudly be displaying it in the living room book shelf.
The only questions remaining, and already posed by other people here, is how much and when? When? WHEN!?
Comment by RawShark — January 8, 2011 @ 2:54 pm
and at the risk of repeating myself… WHEN!?!?!?!
Comment by RawShark — January 8, 2011 @ 2:56 pm
Erik – I’d say get the upcoming Color One Volume, for one reason – it’s in hardcover, and you can’t get the original One Volume B&W in hardcover anymore
But if you ask me to choose which is “better” or which is more enjoyable, color or B&W, it’s impossible, because Jeff’s art is beautiful and striking in B&W and stands completely on its own, but Steve Hamaker’s coloring is superb and wonderful – it makes it a different but equally enjoyable experience.

Thanks Brandon – your hardcover argument has won me over to the color version
Though I agree that Jeff’s B&W art is very well done as well.
Comment by Erik — January 11, 2011 @ 10:04 pm
Looks cool. I probably get it. I wish it was two books in a slipcase instead of one, like Fantagraphics’ Usagi Yojimbo Special Edition. I also wish it featured the material from the OOP Thorn: Tales From the Lantern as extras and maybe the material from Stupid, Stupid Rat Tails: The Adventures of Big Johnson Bone, Frontier Hero that wasn’t reprinted Bone: Tall Tales. Pretty pretty please, Jeff Smith?
