Shazam! Captain Marvel turned 70 in 2010!

Captain Marvel, also known by his enemies as the Big Red Cheese, first appeared in Whiz Comics #2 in 1940. Just in time, Newsarama contributor Zack Smith has completed a multi-part feature article to celebrate the character’s 70th birthday.
He interviewed me and a bunch of other folks who have worked on Captain Marvel over the years. I read the articles and they are full of interesting insights and tid-bits. It’s running over the next few weeks over at Newsarama.

From Zack:
“It’s a big ol’ series that has original artwork by some cool and generous people at the top of each installment, and new interviews I conducted with Chip Kidd, Mark Waid, Alex Ross, Jeff Smith, Jerry Ordway, Mike Kunkel, Elliot Maggin, Roy Thomas, Michael Uslan and (whew!) Jackson Bostwick.
Well, it’s online!  The first part is up!
As it runs, the series will included ALL-NEW, NEVER-BEFORE SEEN pieces of  Captain Marvel art I commissed from the following Herculean talents: Dave Dorman, Evan Bryce, Paul Chadwick, Joelle Jones, Nick Pitarra w/Chris Walker, Dave Crosland, Dean Haspiel, Janet Lee, Michael Oeming, Bradd Parton, Shannon Wheeler and a trio of Marvel Family pics by Matt Wagner! “

  2. It’s unfortunate that the folks who currently own Captain Marvel and family let that anniversary slip by without any fanfare whatsoever.
