Hollywood adventures

Filed under: News — Jeff @ 1:32 pm

Vijaya and I spent most of last week in LA visiting the Fox and Warner Bros. studios. Vijaya snapped the picture above while we were waiting at the super cool 60′s style futuristic Encounters Bar at LAX to board our red-eye flight home to Cols.

The trip was good! We were on the Fox lot to attend a table read for a new Simpsons episode, and let me tell you, it was a blast. It was fun to see Dan Castellaneta, Nancy Cartright and the rest of the cast doing the voices. The show was funny, too. The Simpsons still has it after all these years!

We had two separate meetings on the Warner Bros. lot; first with Wigram Productions, who has optioned the film rights for RASL, then over to Lin Productions to meet the new studio exec. in charge of the BONE project.  The BONE film has been stalled for some months now, and the new exec wanted to meet and let us know that he likes the BONE comics and wants to get the film moving again.

I think both meetings went very well!

Also, just before we left for LA, I finished  issue #10 of RASL and sent it off to the printer. Should be sliding into comic book store shelves the last week of April.

  1. Great to hear that there is still hope for those projects. After the success of intelligent, character driven films like ‘how to train you’d dragon’ & ‘rango’, the studios should wake up to the potential of the work. It just occurred to me, however that Bone would work live, though I cannot imagine it without your style. I had always assumed it would be animated. Thoughts?

  5. Can hardly bare the wait for a Bone film any longer! I recall being on the old Boneville forums and reading about how the Nickelodeon film was going to come out in 2004, and I especially remember groaning about how that was so far away! :)

Anyway, I’m glad to hear there’s still hope, but I’m just dying to see something concrete. As long as the source material is done justice, I can learn to be patient. But man, do I ever hate it…

Speaking of the Simpsons, and the Bone movie…

  8. Fantastic news, Jeff!
Now, if I could just get some more energy into my message board for Bone, we’ll be keeping watch for updates!
By the way, we discussed the possibility of Shawn Wallace as Phoney Bone and Christopher Lee as Rouge Ja. Inconcivable (Ha!) or not?

  9. Jeff, in all of your videos of you drawing, I can never tell what you use to draw. It looks cool. I like how it’s thin, then it gets big in the middle, and then its thin again.
    I use a sharpie….

  13. Jeffrey Adams Smith. That’s a cool name. The idea of a Bone movie fills me with both excitement and fear, For this (http://www.cracked.com/article_19012_5-hollywood-secrets-that-explain-why-so-many-movies-suck.html) and the fact movies based on comics can be really good or really horrible. At least their including you.

  16. Hello MR. Smith! Well it’s great to see that the film is moving along. The ball is rolling again. I just wanted to say that I can’t wait for the movie to come out! Do you have an estimated release date? Are you doing the casting session soon, or have you already done that? I actually have never read the RASL series, because I can”t find it in stores anywhere. Is the casting session for the Bone movie just going to be in Warner Bros. Studios, or are you going to be moving around places? Well I just wanted to say good luck and I hope I might be able to get to the comic convention.

  17. When you guys start casting for the Bone movie, I think you should look to use some of the actors you picked for the Telltale games. The guy who did Phoney Bone in particular was perfect!
