Cartoon Books San Diego Comic-Con Schedule and product premieres!
The kick-off to the 20th ANNIVERSARY BONE TOUR will be in San Diego at the Comic-Con International. I’m a guest this year and I think it’s going to be a fun year. Here are the goodies we are debuting at the Cartoon Books booth:
The BONE boys! The Fone Bone plush was a big hit a couple of years ago, and this summer his two cousins are with him. Premiering at this year’s Comic-Con is plush Phoney Bone and Smiley Bone.
The 20th Anniversary Box Set that contains a hardcover One Volume Edition of BONE in full color…
…plus a lot sweet goodies, like a miniature reproduction of BONE #1, a DVD, and a Phoney Bone gold coin. I like this set a lot. Can you tell?
I’m flipping through the 20th Anniversary Timeline/Cover Gallery Book. That’s the DVD documentary peeking out of the back there. On the couch is the mini reproduction of BONE #1
The other big premiere will be RASL Book 3: Romance at the Speed of Light. Wait’ll you see the RASL side of our booth this year. It’s Tesla-riffic!

If you can’t make it to a show on the 2011 BONE 20th Anniversary Tour, don’t worry, because just like last year, we will have a store sale that includes Jeff’s signature on every book that you purchase. More on that later this week!

Will ever have any Canadian tours? Because I live in Canada and I no for a fact that there are a lot of fans of your comics here.

Can’t wait for the next RASL collection, will it be available in the Boneville store in time for the signing sale?

Not going to San Diego, but I am totally excited that I am going to Baltimore! Jeff, I had the pleasure of meeting you in DC last September at the National Book Festival. I have been star-struck probably twice in my life: the first time meeting my favorite band, the Drive-By Truckers, and the second meeting you. You commented on my early edition One Volume after signing it, I was giddy the rest of the day and my girlfriend STILL finds it hilarious
ah well, have a great show, and see you in a month!

This looks very exciting! One question, though, will it ever be possible to pick up Bone in glorious black and white again? The one volume edition currently has paper so thin that the whites are see through (and so show artwork from the next TWO pages) and the blacks are very grey.
I would love to be able to buy the Cartoon Books versions again (as much as I loved the colourized versions).
Thanks,
- Johnny

The big black & white BONE One Volume paperback that we currently have in print is a Cartoon Books publication. It is usually printed with good black levels, which is very important to me, so thank you for pointing it out. I haven’t found a copy with grayish-black levels, yet, but I’ll have to see if I can find a copy of the most recent printing and check it out. As far as paper thinness, goes, that’s just what the technology allows, and there is not much we can do about it. To be honest, the show-through is very minor and old fogies like me are used to a little bleed through on our old comics.

Thanks for your reply, Jeff. I did a direct comparison with the old single volume CB book I have compared to the CB one-volume edition, and perhaps I was being too harsh.
The blacks are noticeably grayer, but I have Graphic Designer eyes, and they’re still pretty dark in direct comparison — so perhaps I was being too tough.
Not sure I can agree about the show-through, though. Take a look at this link: Bone show-through
This was just taken with my phone camera, but you can see just how bad it is. It was minor in the original CB editions, but I’d have to say it was worse than that in the one-volume ones.
I take it there are no plans for a set of deluxe black and white reprints, then?

Jeff,
Just curious, but are we going to get a notice when the box set starts shipping out? I opted to have it shipped to my home, because at the time I wasn’t sure if I would be able to attend Baltimore or not. Since I am, I was hoping to have it in hand before I left. I know you guys are busy, so thanks!
