Josie & a bunch of Pussycats.

Filed under: News — Jeff @ 7:35 am

This popped up on my Bone alert last month. It was a piece over at Blake Bell’s website that marked the passing of Josie DeCarlo, the inspiration for Dan DeCarlo’s Josie & The Pussycats character for Archie comics. Blake posts an interview he did with Josie from 2002, and it’s worth a look.

As I recall, this picture is from the National Cartoonists Society’s Reuben Award dinner, and we were the comic book table. Around 2001 or so?  Left to right: Dan DeCarlo, me, someone I recognize, but can’t remember his name, Josie, Sergio Aragones, and Will Eisner. Dan and I were both up for best comic book that year- – Dan won and we all went wild!

Thanks to Blake!

  1. Jeff!

Could you post stuff about the Bone movie?!? Maybe even that short clip Warner Brothers showed to you of phoney and fone?!? That would be SUPER AWESOME!!!!

  2. Glad you’re stoked, Cameron! Warner Bros. will talk about the film as it gets further along. Right now, I’m just chatting back and forth with the director as he puts the final touches on the script.

  3. Since movies are being discussed, is the RASL movie further along than the BONE movie? Also, is there going to be a RASL pocket book 2, or are you going to skip to a one volume edition. Man, we need some kind of forum on here so we can talk about the greatness of Jeff Smith by subject. Or maybe a Q & A blog.

  4. Thanks, Houston. The RASL movie is coming along very quickly at the moment, but compared to BONE, it’s just out of the starting gate. Every few weeks they call me and we go over story details. Again, this is something Warner Bros. will start talking about as soon as they are ready to go.

As far as the 2nd Pocketbook for RASL, yes, we plan to do one, but my plans for a One Volume are still evolving and the pocketbook will wait until I make some decisions…for now, though, the plan is to wind up RASL the comic book with issue 15, and we definitely will put out the fourth and final oversized collection sometime this summer!
