Bone: Tall Tales #1 in Canada

Filed under: Bone, News — Tom @ 5:13 pm

For the second week in a row, BONE: Tall Tales is #1 on the Canadian Comics Bestsellers List! This is a list compiled by BookManager of actual graphic novel and manga sales at independent bookstores and comic shops across the country. For some reason, the list refers to Tall Tales as “Bone Prequel.”

The list for Sept. 1 is here, and Aug. 23 here.

Scott Pilgrim vs. me!

Filed under: Bone, News — Jeff @ 2:58 pm

For two weeks straight, Bryan Lee O’Malley’s Scott Pilgrim books have dominated the NY Times bestsellers list. I haven’t seen this written about anywhere, but it strikes me as a big deal. All six books in the top ten at once? Two weeks running! (I’m a little late in posting this, so a new list may be up by the time you read this)  That’s almost an Elvis or Beatles-like feat!  Congratulations, Bryan! Enjoy it, man. I love the Scott Pilgrim books and I loved the movie, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, which I’ve seen twice.

Comic Con interviews with Jeff and Tom Sniegoski (updated)

Filed under: Bone, News, RASL — Tom @ 3:55 pm

Hey everybody! Tom G. again.

BONE: Tall Tales, the new full color BONE graphic novel shipped this week!  Tall Tales is just what it sounds like, Smiley Bone telling Boneville tall tales to three Bone Scouts named Ringo, Bingo, and Todd.  It has new stories, and a couple of older ones that have never been published in glorious Steve Hamaker color. We had a few copies with us in San Diego at Comic-Con, and it seemed like everybody loved them. Above is a picture of the signing Tom & Jeff  had on Friday morning of the show – - it was slammed!

Here’s a link to a CBR interview with Tom Sniegowski that was posted last night. Tom talks about working with Jeff and Vijaya on both Tall Tales and the upcoming prose books BONE: Quest for the Spark.  It’s a fun interview that had me laughing.  It sheds light on a lot of Tom & Jeff’s working habits – - even for Jeff!

Comic Book Resources also covered Jeff’s spotlight panel at Comic Con. You can read that here.

Thanks to Garrett Chin and Steve for some great shots of Tom and Jeff at their booth signing on Friday, July 23rd.

A third interview featuring colorist, Steve Hamaker, will be up later this week.

The Cartoonist wins an EMMY!

Filed under: Bone, News — Jeff @ 1:35 pm

Last weekend The Cartoonist: Jeff Smith, BONE, and the Changing Face of Comics won a regional EMMY for best documentary. Congratulations to Mills/James, Director Ken Mills, and producers Martin Fuller & Mike Myer, all of whom picked up statues!

Marty took these photos and sent them to me.

Vijaya and I have been amazed throughout this entire process… starting with the fact that Ken wanted to make the film in the first place, then when all our friends and family across the country began calling us after seeing the documentary on PBS – - and now this!

Congratulations again. Well deserved!

Very cool, guys! I’m still amazed.
