This graphic was whipped up by our own Tom G. and wasn’t in the blog posted this morning by Nat Brown. The name of the article is “Stupid, Stupid xBox.” Brown is a founder of the original xBox project at Microsoft (and the man who claims to have given it its name), who wrote a very colorful article on the subject. He used our two favorite “intellectually challenged” rat creatures to help illustrate his points.

Jackie Mantey, a reporter from Columbus Alive, came to the office last week to interview me about the Columbus comics scene. There have been some nice events lately, like CCAD’s MIX event that featured Chris Ware as the keynote speaker; the current comics show being put on by the Ohio Art League; as well as The Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum’s up coming move to grander quarters on campus. And apparently there’s an old fart self-publisher lurking about on the city’s south side.

Our friends over at the Comic Book Legal Defense fund are having a membership drive.
Please take a look and consider becoming a member. The work they are doing is as important and timely as ever, because with the growing popularity of graphic novels, the art form has caught the attention of people who think they know better than the rest of us what we should read. Not every attempt to restrict or challenge a book is the result of bad intentions, but when BONE is one of the most challenged graphic novels of the last couple of years, you have to wonder if folks are at least a little misinformed or confused. In any case, it behooves comics as a community to be aware and be prepared.
For as little as $25 a year, you can be an essential part of their mission to protect comics. They’ve prepared some exclusive items to thank everyone who joins the Fund by November 2, including some specifically created by comics creators. Here is a link to mine:
Jeff will offer a signed “BE FREE TO READ” print featuring Fone Bone for members who join at the Supporter ($50) level.
A personalized hand-drawn postcard sketch of BONE to members who join the CBLDF at the Defender ($250) level.
Please consider becoming a member to this very worthy organization.
Thanks!
