Onion/AV Club interview is live

Filed under: Bone, RASL — Jeff @ 1:03 pm

A new Onion/AV Club interview I did recently is live over at the Onion. It covers a lot of ground, from movies to RASL. Be sure you check out the comments that follow - - Tasha, who did the interview assures me that these are really nice compared to the usual bunch. They make fun of my ugly mug, and want to blow up my home state! I’d hate to be on the receiving end of their mean comments!

Still, it’s a nice, chunky interview, even if their readers are a bunch of dicks. The first Onion/AV Club Interview I did in May of 2000 is here.

BONE and Beyond Hardcover Exhibition Catalog still on sale!

Filed under: Bone, News, RASL, Shazam! — Tom @ 3:11 pm

With the overwhelming success of the Before Bone book and its complete sell-out, I wanted to let everybody know that the Jeff Smith: Bone and Beyond exhibition catalog is still available. If you can’t make it to the exhibit (you still have a month left), you can see everything here, plus a lot more.

Jeff Smith: Bone and Beyond is a 96 page, hardcover catalog and is illustrated throughout. It has a foreword by Sherri Geldin, an introduction by Lucy Shelton Caswell, with text by Dave Filipi, Scott McCloud and Neil Gaiman.

Published in conjunction with the Wexner Center and the Cartoon Research Library’s 2008 exhibition, this catalogue presents work featured in the show, including examples of Smith’s original drawings for Bone, plus the more recent Shazam and RASL.

Also featured are selected works by cartoonists who have influenced Smith, such as George Herriman, Charles Schulz and Walt Kelly, and essays by comic book and fantasy author Neil Gaiman, comic book artist and scholar Scott McCloud and Wexner Center film/video curator David Filipi, the exhibition’s co-curator. Cartoon Research Library curator Lucy Shelton Caswell, the exhibition’s other co-curator, provides an introduction. The size is 10.5 x 9.5 in.

You can see some images of the book that were taken by a reader here.

You can purchase a copy from us in the store or at the Wexner shop site.

RASL #2 IN STORES TOMORROW; and a reminder that RASL is for mature readers.

Filed under: Comics!, Drawing Board, News, RASL, Self-Publishing — Jeff @ 2:49 pm

Great news! Diamond Comic Distributors has just confirmed that RASL# 2 will be in stores tomorrow, June 18, one week earlier than we thought. Thanks to Jog - The Blog for tipping me off.

Don’t forget that RASL is for mature readers. I’m actually printing that on the book this time because at the last few events I’ve attended (BONE & BEYOND at the Wexner Center, and Book Expo America) a lot of parents and librarians were picking up copies of RASL for their kids. I thought I’d done enough interviews over the last year to spread the word about the more grown-up noir aspects of this title, but maybe not.

Anyway, I’m glad #2 is here. It’s 32 pages of comics… and here is a preview of the first three pages to wet your appetite. You can click on the images to view them larger.
