RASL and The Cartoonist on year end lists.

Filed under: News, RASL, Self-Publishing — Jeff @ 5:31 pm

RASL and the documentary The Cartoonist appeared on a few year end lists around the internet. Here is a fun link I liked… RASL: The Drift made the Top 5 Continuing Books of the Year over at Stumptown Trade Review. I did a podcast interview with these guys earlier in the year when I was at the Stumptown Comics Fest, and enjoyed it very much. Thanks, Brian & Thor!  Good time to mention that the new issue, RASL #6 will be in stores on Jan. 20! There is a preview of RASL #6 here.

Also, The Cartoonist documentary made the Booklist Editor’s Choice Best of 2009. Three and a half out of four stars. Not bad, Ken! (Ken Mills is the director) Congratulations!

RASL no.7 cover art

Filed under: News, RASL, Self-Publishing — Jeff @ 10:39 am

Just got back from the Retailer Summit in Baltimore on Tuesday where I met and talked with over three hundred comic shop owners and managers from all over North America. Got a lot of great feedback on RASL, which was nice. Above is the art for the cover of #7, which will be in the Diamond catalog for items shipping in Feb. Starting with #7 next year RASL will begin shipping bimonthly. The second collection, RASL 2: The Fire of St. George should drop in April. Amazing color from Steve, huh? Wild!

One surprise for me at the summit was learning that so many comic shops were doing well with the BONE color editions from Scholastic. For some reason, I thought those were mostly being sold into bookstores, schools and libraries, but I heard differently this week! So thank you, retailers, for continuing to support for BONE.

Another happy event last weekend was Terry Moore’s win at the Harveys. ECHO won for best new series! Much deserved! Terry has worked hard to bring that story to life, and we’re all crazy proud of him!

Cartoon Books will be at Mid Ohio Con this weekend!

Filed under: Bone, Events, News, RASL — Tom @ 9:03 am

Hi everybody! Tom again. I wanted to let you all know that I’m taking the Cartoon Books booth full of goodies to the  Mid Ohio Con. The Greater Columbus Convention Center in downtown Columbus will host the event, and you can find me in our booth at space 207. (See map below)

We’re planning some sweet conventions deals so stop by!

I will have some signed books, that will include the new cover of the BONE: One Volume Edition, as seen here as well as some other signed Bone & RASL stuff.

Please come out and say hi if you can!

Some new (and old) additions to the Boneville store!

Filed under: Bone, News, RASL — Tom @ 11:05 am

Hey gang! It’s Tom again and we have some new merchandise, and some recently found older stuff available in the store!

Above is the RASL signed and numbered print that we sold in San Diego. It was limited to 150 prints and we have about 50 left. $10 each!

Little Mouse Gets Ready

There is a lot to do before Little Mouse is ready to go visit the barn. Will he master all the intricacies of getting dressed, from snaps and buttons to Velcro and tail holes? Be sure to find out in Jeffs latest hardcover book, Little Mouse Gets Ready. It is published by Toon Books and is for younger readers ages 4 and up (although we had a lot of adults enjoying it during Comic-Con!).

The Cartoonist: Jeff Smith, BONE and the Changing Face of Comics

This DVD is a beautifully done feature-length documentary about Jeff (which is getting a lot of good reactions around the web; like here, and here!). It also features interviews with other cartoonists in the industry today such as Terry Moore, Paul Pope, Scott McCloud and others.

Phoney’s Big Bone Hunt

We found full cases of the "BIG BONE HUNT." This was our entry into the hidden figure craze a few years ago.  These  counter top display cases were only available in comic book stores. If you aren’t familiar with what this was, allow me to explain. There are six figures: Fone, Smiley, Phoney, Lucius, Rat Creature, and a Stick Eater. Each case contains 24 figures in individually packed boxes, but only one. You dont know what is inside until you open it. In each case you get one stick eater and there are paint variants on the rat creatures, Smiley Bone’s vest and Lucius’ shirt. You also have a chance to find a gold Phoney Bone figure that is super rare. Only 100 of them exist!

New RASL T-shirt

You can get the awesome cover art for RASL #6 on a super comfortable American Apparel t-shirt.

Not to mention the new Bone T-shirts we debuted in San Diego that were a huge hit, so be sure to check out the Boneville Store by clicking here!
