The softcover edition of Shazam! Monster Society of Evil will be In comic book stores this Wednesday. Hooray! I love this book!

I’m happy to say that the paperback version of my Shazam book Monster Society  of Evil will be in comic shops on March 4th. It’s beautifully printed, although a bit smaller than the deluxe hardcover that came out for x-mas 2007 (That book was oversized, and this one is standard DC trade collection size).

On the plus side, it is cheaper, $19.99; only $13.59 on Amazon where it is available for pre-order!

Jeff will be signing at Flying Colors Comics & Other Cool Stuff on Saturday, December 6th in Concord, California.

Joe Field, the owner, was the highest bidder for a CBLDF auction.

Jeff is excited because Joe was one of the first retailers he met back in the early 90s, and is one of his trusted go-to guys whenever he needs retail advice.

After taking a year off from all comic book conventions and store signings, this will be the first and only comic book store appearance Jeff will do in 2008 – 2009, so if you are in the area, please stop by!

With the overwhelming success of the Before Bone book and its complete sell-out, I wanted to let everybody know that the Jeff Smith: Bone and Beyond exhibition catalog is still available. If you can’t make it to the exhibit (you still have a month left), you can see everything here, plus a lot more.

Published in conjunction with the Wexner Center and the Cartoon Research Library’s 2008 exhibition, this catalogue presents work featured in the show, including examples of Smith’s original drawings for Bone, plus the more recent Shazam and RASL.

Also featured are selected works by cartoonists who have influenced Smith, such as George Herriman, Charles Schulz and Walt Kelly, and essays by comic book and fantasy author Neil Gaiman, comic book artist and scholar Scott McCloud and Wexner Center film/video curator David Filipi, the exhibition’s co-curator. Cartoon Research Library curator Lucy Shelton Caswell, the exhibition’s other co-curator, provides an introduction. The size is 10.5 x 9.5 in.

My friend Jennifer Oliver, who designed the Thorn cold-cast statue from Graffitti Designs a few years ago, and was one of Disney’s top clean-up artists during the 80’s and 90’s, has created a new fantasy print. She doesn't have a website, so the print is up on e-bay. Jennifer adds: "Every print plants a tree. I'm sick of my work being a drain on the environment, so I plan to keep up the tree planting policy from this point forward." You can see the picture better here.

James Robertson, who helps Bryan Talbot with his website has sent me a note to say that there is a new CD ROM of Bryan’s critically acclaimed book Heart of Empire.  For Heart of Empire fans (including myself) there's a tremendous amount of process material, like pencils and annotations.
