Trina Robbins and Lee Marrs Winners of the 2022 CXC Transformative Work Award

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Cartoon Crossroads Columbus has named the winners of awards that honor established creators and newcomers. The awards were part of the annual CXC festival that ran Oct. 6-9 in venues across Columbus, drawing thousands of guests and creators to a city that is increasingly a center for the cartoon arts.

Trina Robbins and Lee Marrs won the Transformative Work Award for their work as part of the Wimmen’s Comix collective from the 1970s to the 1990s, and for their careers across media.

“Robbins’ and Marrs’ groundbreaking work with Wimmen’s Comix collective truly defines Transformative,” said Caitlin McGurk, chair of CXC’s Awards Committee and curator of comics and cartoon art at the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum. “Their efforts paved the way for femme and queer creators whose essential voices are at the forefront of the industry today.”

Victoria Douglas is this years winner of the Emerging Talent Award, which is a cash prize for the recipient to use however they would like, in the hopes of continuing to further their cartooning career! Congratulations!

Keith Knight Winner of the 2022 CXC Master Cartoonist Award

 

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Cartoon Crossroads Columbus has named the winners of awards that honor established creators and newcomers. The awards were part of the annual CXC festival that ran Oct. 6-9 in venues across Columbus, drawing thousands of guests and creators to a city that is increasingly a center for the cartoon arts.

Keith Knight, the cartoonist behind the K Chronicles and (th)ink and the television series Woke, won the Master Cartoonist Award.

“By using humor, Keith has exposed the insecurities and hypocrisy of modern society for almost three decades now,” says CXC Artistic Director Jeff Smith, “His cartoons ring true because they are honest.”

Cartoon Books will be exhibiting at The Expo portion of CXC held Saturday and Sunday at the Columbus Metropolitan Library: 96 S. Grant St., Columbus. Look for us on the 2nd floor, booth #3. Jeff will be signing Saturday 3:30-4:30, and Sunday 1:30-2:30pm. We will have the Columbus debut of TUKI, Jeff’s new series as well as specials on BONE and RASL books. It’s CXC Week!

CXC kicks off this Wednesday at the Gateway Film Center! Thursday and Friday events are taking place at The Billy Ireland Cartoon Library Museum and The Wexner Center. Saturday we move downtown to The Columbus Metropolitan Library and CCAD. Saturday we finish out the festival at The Columbus Metropolitan Library with a full day of panels, programming and signings.
