9/11
September 11, 2001, Jeff and Vijaya had just arrived in Norway for a comics festival in Bergen. Illustrating the experience of what it was like to be far from home that day, these original art pieces were donated to the “9-11: Emergency Relief” graphic novel which was a fundraiser for the American Red Cross.

#TBT Wexner Center Mural
In 2008, The Wexner Center for the Arts (located at The Ohio State University), hosted the: Jeff Smith Bone and Beyond gallery exhibit, which featured Jeff’s original art from Bone, Rasl and his Shazam miniseries. Also on display were original pages from some of Jeff’s heroes such as E.C. Segar’s Popeye, Carl Barks’ Uncle Scrooge, Charles Schulz’s Peanuts and more. Perhaps the most jaw-dropping part of the exhibit was the floor-to-ceiling panel installation taken from a scene in the Bone series.

Jeff gave his first New York Times book review for FUNNY THINGS: A Comic Strip Biography of Charles M. Schulz, written by Luca Debus and Francesco Matteuzzi. Illustrated by Luca Debus. Special Announcement
To our friends and fans: Jeff Smith is recuperating from a cardiac arrest, which he suffered on Sunday. There will be a long road to recovery, so regrettably we must cancel the remainder of his book tour this year. Our apologies to his fans who were coming to see him at: Rob Con (VA), CXC (OH), Bedrock Comic Con (TX) and NYCC (NY). Animated Film Director Brenda Chapman is coming to CXC 2023!
Animated Film Director Brenda Chapman is coming to CXC 2023!
Thursday, September 28, Wexner Center for the Arts
Reception 6 pm; Screening 7 pm; Q&A with Brenda Chapman after film
For tickets go to: https://wexarts.org/film-video/prince-egypt
Limited seating available
The Prince of Egypt 25th anniversary screening with Director Brenda Chapman in person. Join us for a reception before the screening and Q&A with Brenda Chapman following screening.
Codirector Brenda Chapman, the first woman to direct an animated feature for a Hollywood studio, visits the Wex to discuss the production of that landmark film.
The Prince of Egypt was the first production created by DreamWorks Animation (Antz was the first film to be released), carving out a place in film history for both Chapman and the studio. The film became an instant critical and box office success upon its release in 1998, and its reputation only continues to grow to this day.
An animated retelling of the life of the prophet Moses from the book of Exodus from the Old Testament, The Prince of Egypt features an astonishing cast of voice actors including Ralph Fiennes, Michelle Pfeiffer, Sandra Bullock, Patrick Stewart, Danny Glover, Jeff Goldblum, Steve Martin, and Val Kilmer as Moses. Chapman also codirected the Oscar-winner Brave (2012) for Pixar. (99 mins., 35mm).
Join us for a discussion and Q&A with director Chapman as we celebrate the 25th anniversary of The Prince of Egypt with a free screening. And come early for a reception with Chapman and NBCUniversal’s Chase Schulte with snacks for sale and a cash bar from 5:30 to 7 PM in the lower lobby before the screening.
Brenda Chapman is the first woman to direct an animated feature film for a Hollywood studio when she made Prince of Egypt (1998). A prolific artist in the animation industry, Chapman has also worked in various capacities on such landmarks as The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, Cars, WALL-E, Up, and many more. Chapman developed the Academy Award winning Brave (2012) for Pixar and was codirector of the film.
