It’s always a good feeling when a book comes back into print. Analysis of Bone: A Look at the Jeff Smith Graphic Novel Masterpiece, is the 3rd iteration of my extensive article about Jeff Smith’s classic graphic novel series, Bone. First brought out by Crossroads, it was included in the commemorative volume, Bone: Coda. Now in a book of its own, the essay traces what made Bone such a phenomenon, from its beginnings as a self-published enterprise, to its flagship status as the first book in Scholastic’s Graphix imprint. The essay also covers Smith’s use of world mythology as well as his chops as a first-rate cartoonist. With a new cover by Jeff Smith, it’s fully illustrated with images from Bone, and includes a long interview with the cartoonist.
