TUKI Fight for Fire

Just about everyone who backed our first Kickstarter should have received their copy of Book One. We hope you are enjoying Jeff’s new series! Let us know what you think! A few mentions via Goodreads (all 5 star reviews):

“Anything Jeff Smith creates is worth notice … this first installment in a graphic novel series about early people shows his depth as storyteller … I also greatly appreciated the ending section, where he pulls back the veil on the story’s origin and how he worked and reworked ideas for years …. Note: I donated to his Kickstarter for this book.”
-Kevin H.

“Jeff Smith is a master. The delicate lines in his art, the whimsy and adventure in the storytelling, and the very concept of different branches of human ancestry interacting… it’s sublime. You can’t be a fan of comics and not enjoy this.”
-Jared

“I found it fascinating by what the author did with researching paleo-anthropology. A very interesting and very well illustrated book.”
-Lori F.

Update for our Australian Kickstarters

An update for our Australian Kickstarters! 90% of your pledges for TUKI Book One have shipped, and hopefully most have been received before the USPS delivery restrictions were enforced. Due to Covid there are labor shortages there that are effecting our ability to fulfill these orders. Some shipments have already been returned to us, with more likely on the way. Additionally we are no longer able to print postage for your packages, so we will hold these orders until the restrictions are lifted. If you have any questions about your pledge, please contact Kathleen: kathleen@boneville.com. Thanks for your patience and support!

TONIGHT! Jeff Smith in Conversation With David Filipi Tuki, Bone, and 30 Years of Cartoon Books

Jeff Smith in Conversation
With David Filipi
Tuki, Bone, and 30 Years of Cartoon Books
Fri, Oct 1 / 7pm
Free, In Person, Ticketed (reserve online or pick up ticket at the desk)

As part of this year’s Cartoon Crossroads Columbus (CXC), Jeff Smith joins Wex Director of Film/Video David Filipi for a wide-ranging conversation about Bone, his most famous creation; TUKI, his most recent release; and thirty years of Cartoon Books, his independent comic book company.

Columbus-based cartoonist Smith is no stranger to the Wex—he was the subject of a 2008 exhibition cocurated by Filipi—and this conversation promises to be a memorable one about his extensive career.

TUKI: Fight for Fire and TUKI: Fight for Family!, his latest releases, are set two million years ago, when many different types of humans roamed upright on two legs across east Africa. The story introduces the reader to a number of these groups: Australopithecus (the branch that included the famous Lucy); the Habiline people, whose bigger brains led to stone tool creation; and new humans who entered with an amazing new power, the ability to create and control fire!

A signing in the Wexner Center lower lobby follows the conversation.

This year’s CXC festival features both virtual and in-person events presented by Ohio State’s Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum, Columbus College of Art & Design, Columbus Museum of Art, and Columbus Metropolitan Library.

Visit cartooncrossroadscolumbus.com for the full festival schedule.
