Now in a book of its own, the essay traces what made Bone such a phenomenon, from its beginnings as a self-published enterprise, to its flagship status as the first book in Scholastic’s Graphix imprint. The essay also covers Smith’s use of world mythology as well as his chops as a first-rate cartoonist. With a new cover by Jeff Smith, it’s fully illustrated with images from Bone, and includes a long interview with the cartoonist.
