Gene Luen Yang is one of the most talented and successful cartoonists. His graphic novels AMERICAN BORN CHINESE and BOXERS & SAINTS were both National Book Award finalists. AMERICAN BORN CHINESE went on to win the Printz Award and an Eisner Award, while BOXERS & SAINTS the L.A. Times Book Prize. In 2016 Yang was named Ambassador for Young People’s Literature by the Library of Congress. That same year he was awarded the MacArthur genius grant. CXC is proud to have Gene as our 2020 Keynote guest in conversation with BONE creator and CXC Artistic Director Jeff Smith.

Join CXC’s Jeff Smith for a lively and hilarious chat with comics superstars Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner on October 3rd. Palmiotti and Conner have storied careers in mainstream and independent comics, and we’ll talk about their work on some of the biggest superheroes in the world, including a defining run on Harley Quinn that inspired how that character was portrayed in the Birds of Prey movie and the Harley Quinn animated series.

September 11, 2001, Jeff and Vijaya had just arrived in Norway for a comics festival in Bergen. Illustrating the experience of what it was like to be far from home that day, these original art pieces were donated to the “9-11: Emergency Relief” graphic novel which was a fundraiser for the American Red Cross.
CXC will happen on a variety of platforms. Some of our events (like the Talk & Teach workshops) will be on Zoom Webinars and require registration. But almost everything will be streamed on our Facebook, YouTube, & Twitch. Details: http://cartooncrossroadscolumbus.org/schedule
Roz Chast is coming to Cartoon Crossroads Columbus this October! The NEW YORKER cartoonist and author of CAN WE TALK ABOUT SOMETHING MORE PLEASANT? and YOU CAN ONLY YELL AT ME FOR ONE THING AT A TIME, Chast will join fellow New Yorker cartoonists Liz Montague and Amy Hwang and editor Emma Allen for a conversation about the legacy and changing culture of the magazine.
